new car drivers are required to pass a separate theory test before obtaining a full
driving licence. The theory test is straightforward and you will pass it if you are well
prepared.
The cost is currently £30.00 Candidates taking the driving theory test will select the answers by simply touching a computer screen. There will be 50 multiple choice questions and you must answer at least 43 of them correctly to pass. A maximum of 57 minutes is allowed for the test. This is plenty of time to complete it without rushing. Special requirements can be made to help you if required. If you are dyslexic you will be allowed extra time and you will be allowed to listen to the test being read through a headset. After a break of up to three minutes after completing the theory test, the hazard perception test will start. The test consists of 14 video clips, each lasting about one minute. The clips feature various types of hazards such as vehicles, pedestrians and road conditions. You should respond by pressing a mouse button as soon as you see a hazard developing that may result in the driver having to take some action, such as changing speed or direction. The earlier the developing hazard is spotted, and a response made, the higher the score. Candidates can score up to five marks on each hazard and the test contains 15 scoreable hazards. The pass mark for this part of the test will be 44 out of 75 for car drivers. Candidates are given their results when they have finished both parts of the test. You will need to pass both parts of the test at the same sitting to pass your theory test. You must pass the theory test before you can apply for a practical test. However, you can start having driving lessons before taking the theory test. The nearest theory test centres are Dudley, Worcester and Wolverhampton. I can supply you with the test application form. Good luck with your theory test! |
